This was my second trip to the Wind River Range in Wyoming, and I enjoyed this this visit at least as much as my 2016 visit. Of course, I went to a different part of the range, primarily covering a section of the Continental Divide Trail, roughly between the New Fork Lakes and Scab Creek trailheads. But a trip of this nature must inevitably pass through other areas to get there plus a few diversions. (City slickers might say I covered an area in the mountains to the northeast of Pinedale.) Wherever I went, it was an adventure.
The Wind River Range seems to have more than its share of mountains and lakes, so there are many combinations of the two.
Of course, rivers are a part of the experience. You might not be surprised that Island Lake is a popular place to campA little snow lingers into August in the high places.Wildflowers were busting out everwhere when I was thereJust one portion of Titcomb BasinMountains and lakes are a great combinationPerhaps surprisingly, waterfalls are not common, so this 80 foot waterfall was special.
A portion of my favorite area around the Continental Divide Trail (CDT)Tall cliffs on the sides with a river in the middle help form a “park” at the bottom
The view from Lester Pass was memorableIt’s sure nice to wake up to a scene like thisWhen you’re many miles from civilization, you need to pay attention to the weather. What do these unusual clouds portend? For me, calm, pleasant scenes like this one balance the scenes of high excitement. To me, this area felt like it was outside the Wind River Range. It was a large meadow with sweeping views some of the mountains in the range.
